For Drew and Jonathan Scott, the twins better known as HGTV’s “Property Brothers,” real estate began as a side hustle. Drew ran up his credit cards while seeking work as an actor; Jonathan declared bankruptcy while working as a magician. Flipping fixer-uppers got them back in the black, but they still ached to perform. They pitched themselves as a renovation team to various reality-TV networks but got roundly rejected until the W Network, a small Canadian TV channel aimed at women, gave them a break in 2010. “An executive there said, ‘Two young, hot guys doing slow-motion renovations in tight jeans? We’ll take it,’” Drew recalls.
